Perfection Print first opened its doors in West Auckland in 1996 as a two man operation in an 80 sq/m factory
in Avondale.
Having started the business with only $2000, managing director Colin Cao and partner Johnny Wang worked hard,
and were soon running simple jobs like letterheads and invoice books.
With the addition of a GTO, Cao began to build up the business, adding more equipment and moving to larger
premises in 1999, and gaining more staff, notably designers, experienced printers, and a sales staff of 4.
The business has snowballed and now has 14 employees, four colour A2 and A3 presses, design, prepress,
imagesetting and finishing capability in the 8000 sq/ft premises it has occupied since July 2002.
Perfection Print has recently added a Polar 92ED guillotine from APM, which has allowed it to process many
more heavy duty jobs, according to Colin.
He says that Perfection Print turned first to APM when it was looking for a new guillotine because of its
reputation for quality and good prices. “We do a lot of A2 jobs and a lot of heavy board, and it is excellent
for that,” Colin says. He adds tat the quality and productivity of the guillotine has been impressive.
The guillotine is a 1999 model for the recognised world leader in guillotines and was sourced and installed
by APM. Perfection Print’s relationship with APM has been a significant part of its growth.
Singe the beginning, Perfection Print has worked closely and effectively with its supplier. The company’s
very first GTO46 was supplied by Alex Peters, as was a Heidelberg Cylinder capable of doing A2 sized jobs.
Colin has worked closely with Alex throughout his time in the business.
Colin expressed his gratitude to nearby printers who have helped his business throughout the years, such as
Chris Nicholson at Westprint and Ron Lucca, previously of Westside Print. The advice and support of the
printing community had been importance in helping him get established.
